Two Day Package

Short Story Day 111 of 365

When Ralph Neimeier sent the package to his brother, he had hoped it would get there in two days like he paid for. The post office assured him that it would easily be in his brother’s mail box in two days, and quite possibly one.

On day 3, Neimeier went to the post office to check on it. The online status said it hadn’t been updated since it left the original station, the same place Ralph was going.

After waiting in line for 20 minutes, Ralph finally got to a clerk’s station.

No pleasantries, no formalities.

Ralph said, “I sent this two-day express and we’re now on day three. Can you tell me if it’ll be delivered today?”

The clerk scanned the tracking ticket and punched in a few keys on his computer.

“Hmm. Says it was delivered…” He checked his watch. “Delivered twenty minutes ago. Made it there in three days. Not bad. Not bad at all.”
